Academic Coaching

Students don't need more pressure. They need a better process.

Through one-on-one academic coaching, I provide individualized support based on each student's unique strengths and challenges. After meeting with parents and students, I tailor each coaching session to the student's specific goals, learning style, and areas for growth.

Small-Group Homeschool Classes

Our homeschool classes are grounded in neuroscience, Engineering and Design fundamentals, and project-based learning.

Research-based strategies help students understand how learning happens: challenge, practice, feedback, and reflection strengthen their skills, deepen understanding, and build their capacity to learn.

Two-hour sessions
Aligned with VA Standards of Learning

High-interest literature and dynamic discussions spark curiosity rather than force engagement. Students examine themes across texts, read beyond literal meaning, make connections to their lives and current events, and develop higher-order thinking skills.

Students read short stories, novels, essays, and poetry to explore themes and make connections across texts. Through discussion and writing, they develop their ideas using textual evidence and learn to cite sources appropriately.

Through meaningful assignments, students develop reading, writing, grammar and mechanics. Rather than worksheets and recall-based tests, students demonstrate mastery through discussion, projects, writing and portfolios.

English homeschool classes develop curious, confident thinkers who write skillfully, think critically, and take ownership of their learning.

History

History Homeschool Classes

History is not a collection of dates.

Two-hour sessions
Aligned with VA Standards of Learning

Students learn a framework for historical analysis that builds deep understanding and evidence-based reasoning, preparing them for future AP History coursework.

We apply that framework to World History during the Renaissance, and American History from Reconstruction to the present day. Through compelling stories, primary and secondary sources, discussion, writing and projects, students investigate the past rather than memorize it.

Students also discover connections between disciplines, applying themes explored in English, such as appearance versus reality, power and responsibility, and decisions and consequences, to historical people and events.

History homeschool classes teach students to evaluate multiple perspectives, recognize patterns across time, make meaningful connections, and use the past to think critically about the world today.

Rather than simply helping a student finish tonight's homework, I help them understand how to approach learning so they can increasingly manage challenges on their own. My goal is not to create dependence on a tutor.

Parent Academy

The goal is not to tell you how to parent. The goal is to provide research-based information, practical tools, thoughtful perspective, and community so you can make informed decisions that are right for your family.

College Essay Sessions

Students move through brainstorming, reflection, drafting, organization, sentence craft, revision and editing, while remaining the authors of their own essays.

They leave with more than a polished application essay. Using the Engineering & Design Process, students learn a repeatable writing process they can carry directly into the writing demands of college and beyond.

The finished essay matters. Learning how to write it matters even more.
